Omnitouch’s ‘archipelago’ shortlisted for the 2025 CommsDay Edison Awards
20th of June, 2025
Omnitouch is proud to announce that its Archipelago solution was shortlisted for a 2025 Communications Day (CommsDay) Edison Award.
The submission highlighted a project delivered in partnership with OptimERA xG to build a resilient, decentralised mobile network across Alaska’s Aleutian Islands—one of the most remote and weather-exposed regions on the planet.
Prompted by a tragic event that exposed the limitations of legacy infrastructure, Omnitouch and OptimERA xG developed Archipelago: a modular network architecture that allows each site to operate independently, maintaining connectivity even during partial network outages.
Today, the network provides 4G/LTE and VoLTE services across the island chain. In a global first, Dutch Harbour also became the inaugural site to host a Starlink Community Gateway, boosting backhaul capacity by 25 times and unlocking new opportunities for education, economic development, and digital inclusion.
This nomination reflects Omnitouch’s core mission: designing people-first technology for communities that are too often left behind. The team extends its thanks to CommsDay for the recognition and congratulates all of this year’s winners.
